1 Week Post – Op

I love my toys

Longest week of my life! All of you are correct. There has been some ups and down. I have read my past BLOGS and I can see myself writing them with worry sometimes and other times with joy.

I was told by all of you to focus on the positives and that is what I have done the past few days. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and comments.

Lorna’s swelling is way down and her bruising is down as well. She is off her antibiotics and tonight is her last dose of one set of pain killers. (the one that begins with the “T”).

Many people from work have been asking about her which makes me feel good as well.

Next weekend Lorna will have some friends over and maybe that will cheer her up. I sold my car yesterday so now her surgery is paid off. (Yes I sold the car to pay for surgery)

Overall I know this blog is all over the place but i truly learn a lot and thank all of you who not only BLOG but also comment back to me with encouragement and/or ideas.

Can’t wait for 14 days Post – Op!

  3. Glad Lorna is doing better! Hang in there, it will get better. She is so blessed to have such a wonderful pawrent who would sell their car to help her.

  4. Hi there! Sounds like you and I are in a similar position at the moment except Nelson is two weeks post-op.

He had his first ‘phantom pain’ episode on Tuesday and it scared the hell out of me. I know what you mean about how they cry but they don’t yelp like that normally. It just about broke my heart and I felt so helpless not being able to do anything for him.

I lay beside him and rubbed his head and he soon went to sleep. My holistic vet showed me last night some acupressure points to rub on the top of his head and behind the ears when he’s distressed. The spots weren’t surprising as they are where I normally massage his head when he’s a bit stressed or over-excited (or just want to give him some love).

Nelson is pretty independent and has managed to work out how to get up and down stairs by himself almost immediately. But he is pretty quiet and it takes a fair bit of encouragement to get him up to go downstairs sometimes.

I figure he’s allowed this time to convalesce. It’s pretty major surgery and if he feels like resting and being sooked up, then that’s ok with me.

Interested to see how you go with Lorna Doone, seeing as they have both lost a leg at around the same time (front right leg on 26 May) and both have bull mastiff in them – Nelson is half bull mastiff and half boxer.

Wishing you the best with your recovery.

    Marnie and Nelson
