Not such a good night…

My fiance and I slept downstairs last night with Lorna. Every time Lorna would even move, I would wake right up. I got a very bad nights rest. Around 4:30AM she tried to get up but let out loud yelp and cried for a few seconds.

Now…..my dog does NOT yelp at all. She is a tough tough Bullmastiff! Bullmastiff don’t yelp, they cry. (:-()I have only heard her yelp 3 times in 2 1/2 years. She is tough, and to see her yelp really freaked me out. We believe it was from the pain meds wearing off? We hope!? Then she had an itch on/near her staples and tried to scratch it! That ALSO freaked me out! I hope she doesn’t scratch while we are at work. (Longest 8hrs ever)

We both had to leave for work this morning (thats where I am writing this blog now) and we hope and pray she is ok alone at home. Usually those pain meds knock her out for a few hours? Very nervous.Tonight we have our last pre-marriage class with the church – grrrr more time Lorna is alone.

The rest of the week I have to work in Boston and will be driving back and forth. (CT to Boston = 1hr 15min). Saturday my Fiance has her Bridal Shower in NJ and i’ll be with Lorna from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. This Saturday would be 9 days after the amputation….i am hoping for a much smoother weekend? Thoughts?

You guys rock by the way for reading and commenting on all of this. It true DOES HELP and we can’t get over the support from TRIPAWDS people. Thanks again –  I’ll take some pics tonight

Day 2…..

She finally went outside and peed! Very freaking excited. We took the cone off, i know we shouldn’t but why we are here we can supervisor with the cone off. My fiance got a small NIKE shirt to cover her so we don’t scare the neighbors kids.

She is taking her meds like a champ and doing good. Her physical pain is no where close to my emotional pain haha 🙂

We JUST took her outside and………………POOP AND PEED! (literally just took her outside while writing in post haha)

Pick Up Day…

What a shock to see her. I must say i was happy, sad, felt bad but yet excited to start the healing process. She is tough so tough it amazes me.

She fell a few times getting out of the car and again trying to get into the house (damn cone) which broke my fiance heart but got right back up again.

She DOES NOT like the cone on her but the Vet said it has to stay on for 14 days!

Pictures to follow

Drop off day….

We got to the Vet’s office around 8am. While signing some of the paper work, they started to take Lorna away. (Not cool)

With a heavy hearts we watched Lorna limp her way back behind the “STAFF ONLY” doors. At least we knew the pain she was in was about to go away.

It was a long day of work before we got the phone call post-surgery.

The surgeon said she did well and is resting with IV meds. I know she is a strong dog and will adjust well to three legs!

We can’t pick her up until Saturday…..2 more days

Worst Day Ever….

We arrived at the specialist around 9am. Of course we waited in the room for 40 minutes before being seen!

The surgeon came in the room and we had the X-rays from our local vet’s office. After looking at the X-ray’s for a few minutes the surgeon told us the news. Our Lorna had (what appeared to be) osteosarcoma. VERY common cancer usually on older dogs. NOT A 3 YEAR OLD BULLMASTIFF. He said we had a few options

1) IV treatment that would dull the pain but not get rid of the cancer

2)Amputation (command and recommended…and would give us 6 more months to a year with her)

With MANY tears we decided amputation was the route for us. We scheduled the surgery for THE NEXT morning. Wow craziness.

The bad news….

Ok so I was told to start from the beginning and post in order.(Future wife :-))

I’m not a good poster but I will try my hardest.

First off, thank you everyone for the comments already. You have no idea how much this is helping my fiance and I. We are 26 and 28 and with the wedding a few weeks away, we are trying to give our pup the care she deserves and do the finalization for the big day.

Ok, about a month ago our Lorna Doone started to limp on her front left leg. We thought (and so did the Vet) that she has pulled a muscle or maybe hurt her paw by jumping off our bed. (We have a very high bed and she is a 100LB Bullmastiff). He gave us some meds to help with pain and swelling of the paw. The meds were for one week and after one week, the limping came back. The vet thought maybe she re-aggravated it so this time he gave us the same meds for 2 weeks. Long story short, after two weeks the limp was back and worse.

Last Friday we went to the vet and the minute the Vet walked into the room, he knew it was good. He wanted X-Rays done and the X-Rays were not good. There was “Something” growing in and around her bone. He immediately scheduled us to see a specialist about the X-ray.

Off to the specialist…..

So many question – mind is going a mile a minute.
